"Daughters of the Dust" tells the story of a family of African-Americans who have lived for many years on a Southern offshore island, and of how they come together one day in 1902 to celebrate their ancestors before some of them leave for the North. The film is narrated by an unborn child, and ancestors already dead also seem to be as present as the living.。十五年前一场地震困住了幼年的顾明和顾月，身为母亲的沈凌云在一番痛苦抉择下，选择了救哥哥顾明，地震过后，顾月大难不死，被拾荒者何二狗救走，成了何二狗的养女，更名何彩云，时光荏苒，岁月变迁，成年后的彩云意外邂逅了亲生父母，并开启了一段感人故事。。
