本作は街の小さなケーキ屋で働く恋には少し奥手なパティシエと、毎週金曜日にケーキを買いに来る“お嬢さん”を軸にしたラブコメディ。互いのことが気になっているものの店員と客という立場から、積極的にアプローチできない2人の恋の行方を描く。。原先过着学生生活的年轻女性朵罗瑞丝，在她的挚友被残忍谋杀后，陷入一团混乱。她两年后准备出庭，她是唯一被列为嫌疑者，她所有的生活点滴受到媒体报导，所有人都能轻易地对她判断有罪或无罪，而她的家人则极力替她捍卫她的清白。在审判的过程，朵罗瑞丝也逐渐怀疑那一天到底发生了什么事。。MOTHER TONGUE (母语) is a portrait of a Chinese American family in which the consequences of a mother’s decision to leave her young daughter in the care of a white American “homestay” family are slowly unearthed over the course of a family dinner.
