Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。幼童二虎子因母亲生病，于破庙外拦车行乞，为车夫李七龙鞭打成伤，车中章家寨女主人云姑娘基于同情，赠二虎子玉佩一块，嘱往张家寨讨取银两，然后驰车而去。 二虎子将玉佩交给母亲，又复出行乞。回来时惊见母亲已死，玉佩失踪，遂立誓为母亲报仇。当夜张家寨为盗匪洗劫，云姑娘被杀，仅剩受伤的何公仆与幼女何慧芳。 十年后，二虎子以疤拉虎之名行侠仗义誉满江湖，到处追杀父仇人，打听玉佩下落，一日见何公仆腰悬玉佩，疑为仇家，于是夜探客栈，追问玉佩来源，两人一言不合争斗起来，何公仆不慎死于自己的刀下。疤拉虎即摘下玉佩至破庙追祷母亲。 翌日，疤拉虎往张家寨废墟，遇车夫李七龙，带往柳园何家，正值何家办丧事，才知道昨天误杀者为何公仆，深感懊悔不已。再询问玉佩之事，原来是购自于天宝银楼，于是往往银楼追查，银楼掌柜说玉佩是多年前燕麦翎卖出。疤拉虎即再拜访燕麦翎，归来后，银楼掌柜已惨遭杀害...。
